a short upper lip is a sign of beauty also nowadays.
There is a very common beauty operation called bullhorn lift to reach this ideal. When people get older the distance between nose an lip gets longer.

Wow das wußte ich noch nicht von dem bullhorn lift.
So this means that a short distance between the root of the nose and the upper lip is considered beautiful. (Upper lip is always translated as Oberlippe. Not easy.) Maybe the right name of this part of the body is bullhorn?

    AW: Question

Interesting question and something I didn't know either.

    Had to look it up.

Apparently the bit between nose and mouth is called 'upper lip'. The part, which we know as 'Oberlippe' is officially the 'upper vermilion', (isn't this the name of a colour too?).

But it looks like there are also agreements to call everything between nose and mouth opening 'upper lip'.

Frangipani, yours is the best explanation so far!
As of maybe upper lip = above the lip?
It is true, however, that it doesn't look nice, when this part is a bit long.
In this context the second part of the phrase "her moth is full and lovey" just means that both lips are full and nicely formed, whereas the distance to the nose is a small one!
    Yeah, that's it !

Btw, vermillion is a very bright red, I think.
Oh, I just looked it up: zinnoberrot !
