    Short Stories - english

First time that I was trying to translate my short story in English.
Till now I had had help from a friend for other stories to translate them, but she is very busy now, so I tried myself to translate the script. One reason to public this little story is to find out whether the readers will mainly understanding my message at the end. I gave the story to read to some friends and was surprised that a veteran teacher (man) was total different understanding the sense of my message (I can talk later about/ why). Most of the women reader were all understanding what I tried to manifest myself.

I would be pleased about a faithfully comment of you. I will not be
set up of you or disappointed if you will write very critical about.
I am a newbie. Thank you! Hope it is not to long!

    ~ 25 CENT ~

    SUMMER, 2006

International Airport Vancouver - Welcome to Canada!

A trip across Vancouver Island - Long Beach Tofino, tasting salmon chowder and I read on the menu card:
“Join us for the drama of a winter storm.”

    http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...9/DSCF0853.jpg

I found a “25-cent-coin” in my wallet and wondered about. It was a special coin with a pink coloured ribbon like this:

    http://www.thecancerblog.com/media/2...-pink-coin.jpg

When I was showing it to my traveller companion we both liked this pink coloured coin at the first moment. I was taking care “never” to give it away.

On the way to Port Alberni, west coast of the island, suddenly I had an intense desire to meet there a special person to join with me the winter storms at the most western point at the Pacific Ocean coast.

As I know: “Be careful what you wish for - you just might get it”.

    AUTUMN, 2006

The ferry “Spirit of Vancouver” took me back to the mainland in the direction to the International Airport Vancouver, so in my personal baggage the 25-cent-coin and articular wishes and desire to come back again to a special place to be there with a special friend.

    http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n...9/DSCF0418.jpg

Later I was reading about this coin:

”25-cent coin featuring a pink ribbon, the symbol representing hope and awareness....”

So I really was convinced that I had found something special.

Someone told me that he had the same impression like me because this quarter. May be there were coined thousands of them, but for me it was like a good luck charm / talisman, an individual item. It means much more for me than 25-cent.

In some situations I nearly had given the quarter away, cause I kept it in my purse together with other coins.

Than I saved it in a several little turquoise coloured money bag and took care not to give it away.

All people I was showing than this quarter told me too: “Save it! Never give it away! It is something special you found”!

    SUMMER, 2007

The special 25-cent coin was again in my wallet on the way back to Canada. I met the person I profoundly wished for the year before, a special meeting. We both liked to follow the ravens and eagles.

    http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...avenBC0707.jpg

A long journey at several places, a hug at International Airport Vancouver to say good bye, but in my purse “safety” again the 25-cent and a lot of memories.

    http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...00707Vanc1.jpg

The aircraft took off and made a turn over the island until we were flying in direction to the Atlantic eastern coast and Greenland. Below me I saw the bright blue water of the Pacific Ocean and the ferry “Spirit of Vancouver” with the knowledge he is on aboard ship on the way back to the island.

    WINTER, 2008

Again I was on the way to Canada with me the turquoise money bag and inside this little pink coloured “25-Cents” for a special meeting in winter season, mainly on Vancouver Island. First time it was mild weather on the island.

My wishes and dreams came true and we took at a bright day the way to Tofino. Past some beautiful lakes, miles from anywhere.

The seaplane were taking off to fly over the rain forest. Two skydiver were landing savely at Long Beach Tofino. Surfer enjoyed the big waves in their neoprene suits.

I was writing with the stick of the comb of my friend some messages into the beach sand. We were sitting on a big piece of triftwood to have a picnic and the crows and bald eagles were wheeling above us.

    http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...p/DSC01122.jpg

Three crows were picking crumbs of bread. Behind us a warning sign “Beware of wolves” or “Beware of cougars”. I had the wish to stop all the clocks and hold on the time at this beautiful moment.

    http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...ofino08075.jpg

Incredible, my dream came true - at the right place and winter season with the right travelling companion I was longing for in autumn 2006 at the same location, “is this only a dream”!?

    http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...ofino08088.jpg

But than the other surprise, old man winter blasted just this location with winter storm and buried the position (city) in record snowfall in December, breaking a 44-year-old record. The place had three times as much snow. Near my city snowfalls ranged from 40 to 50 cm – likely one of the heaviest snowfalls there at any time of the year over the last 61 years, according to Canada. Me and the city were the big winner in the snowfall lottery.

    LEAVING CANADA

The last few minutes when I was waiting at the International Airport Vancouver for the plane to Frankfurt gate No 55 to fly away from Canada I took notice from a young man and a woman who were both talking very lively at two phone boxes (not so far from the gate) and so I was patently waiting some minutes to make “a last call” to the island.

Suddenly I got the special demand to listen again the sound of my favourite voice.

I was looking for the last coins in my handbag and was calling his cell phone number. There was a toonie (2 Dollars) in my purse but the phone box did not accept it. Helpless. But I did not give up to find more coins in my bag.

All the coins I found than I was throwing into the phone box and typing his number. The display told me that there were not enough coins to get a telephone line, but there was the great wish to listen his agreeable voice and to have a short moment a talk to say again for a very long time goodbye or forever. Who knows when I will
come back again to Canada and what will happen now. I am sure he did not expected a call. He was very busy at his place of work.

Again I was looking to find some other coins in my rose coloured handbag. No chance to find one. But lucky me, I found the quarter with the pink coloured ribbon and was not considering what to do now.

    http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/a...anWin08131.jpg

At this very moment I was throwing my “dearest 25-Cent-coin” in the phone box, but did not get a connection to him. So I heard only the voicemail and with a little smile the sound of his voice and there was only one minute time to talk exactly to the tape.

It was the best feeling to talk, but I do not rightly remember what I told to him.

Twenty minutes later the aircraft was departing from Vancouver in the direction to the Eastern Coast of Canada and further to Greenland and Germany.

    http://i420.photobucket.com/albums/p...p/DSC01052.jpg

To know that he would listen later my message at the mailbox when I am thousands of kilometres away or anyplace else in the sky gave me a special feeling.

    Back again to Germany.

    ~ I didn’t miss the 25-Cent-Coin anymore! ~

    WINTER, 2009

Later I heard that this 25 Cent was coined in summer 2006 about 29,798,000 of times in Canada. “One among a thousands”!!!!

At this very moment I knew and remembered, the same song like in autumn 2006:

“Let me know that I turn in your life, but I am only on a journey. I am sure you remind the roman. I am sure you know the facts what I mean. It ‘s stormy in my soul. When I am back. Storming to my soul. So many people are walking through my life - why do I worry for one.

Sometimes you have to walk away.....”

    Dear Feinsinn,

I won't comment on your English, just speculate about the story itself, okay?
First I had to inform myself about the pink bow or ribbon – I only knew the red one and what it stands for!
I think the story hints that the friend, when the coin was finally spent to phone her, had died from breast cancer.
Furthermore - that life is transient and elusive and you better take it as it comes, even the tragic death of a dear friend?
And may be the man who misinterpreted the story thought it was about AIDS?

    Have a nice day,

    Dear Lalique

Thank you to take time for reading.

I know that the story (grammar etc.) has enough mistakes.

The man who misinterpreted the story was knowing enough about me and the background of this story. He made some
radio broadcasting about. He told me: There are so much of this coins in Canada, why you are not looking for an other one (coin)? It would be the same to change the feelings to this special friend and to find easy an other one.

The quarter were coined ca. 30,000,000 times in Canada, Canada has about 32,000,000 residents. So he thought it would be easy for me to find again a coint or a friend like this special one I lost.

The friend did no die of cancer or aids. This is really something it could be misunderstand.

I showed this script to special friends and also to my children and
all understand the background and the end of the story very good.

An old friend, he is Australian and living in Germany read it, he
never read some of my stories in the past, cause he was to busy and more interested in technical books or historical books, but he wrote me yesterday that he understand the story very good and like it and wish more to read, cause it would be exciting for him to listen more about, ok I told him also about some other experiences
there and I like to look often to the backside of the scenery where I am.

I was really surprised about that he is interesting for now. May be it is easier to understand it for the people who are knowing me and the background and the others can try to read between the lines. So I do it often when I read stories from others.

It was my first translation, you know. May be it would be better to discribe the end in an other version. I will think about.
Better to do it in German!

    Enjoy your evening

    MOMENTS

There are moments in life when you miss someone
So much that you just want to pick them from your dreams
And hug them for real! When the door of happiness closes,
Another opens; but often times we look so long at the closed door
that we don’t see the one which has been opened for us.

Don’t go for looks; they can deceive. Don’t go for wealth,
Even that fades away- Go for someone who makes you smile,
Because it takes only a smile to make a dark day bright.
Find the one that makes your heart smile.

    Dream what you want to dream; go where you want to go;
Be what you want to be, because you have only one life
And one chance to do all things you want to do.

May you have enough happiness to make you sweet,
Enough trials to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human,
Enough hope to make you happy. The happiest of people don’t
Necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of
Everything that comes along their way.

    The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past;
You can’t go forward in life until you let go of your past
    Failure and heartaches.

When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you
Was smiling. Live your life so at the end:
You ’re the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying.

    ----------------------------

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take,
But by the moments that take our breath away!

    Take care!

I like the story, Gwendy, but you are supposed to always give the author's name under a text not written by yourself!
However, though I agree with everything said, in one point I disagree.
We don't have only one, but many lives. The present one is just a link in a long chain.
    This is the good news!
We have many chances, again and again.
In case you are born sickly, or into a dysfunctional family, when you are poor and hopless, when there is no love, only coldness in life, there is always hope for the next one, and that knowledge can set you free!

    Have a nice day

I thought the story is written 100 % by Gwendy26.

I like to remember some special nice moments of the (early) past, but not to youthhood.

No, the story is well known!
It doesn't matter at all! I think every good text should be welcome, but the autor's name is really important, sometimes for copyright reasons and to avoid trouble.
As to the special moments... the best ones are rare, I think, that's what makes them precious ...

    Have a nice evening,
